Thursday 11/02/21 Big, Beautiful Bremer Bay
We left Albany heading to our next stop, Bremer Bay. The main highway was still closed for roadworks in the same area as when we were driving over and so once again we were sent on quite a long detour. Bremer Bay is only 188 kms from Albany so it didn’t take us that long. The caravan park at Bremer Bay is located adjacent to the Wellstead Estuary. It is a delightful little holiday town, surrounded by beautiful beaches and bays. It appears to be a very popular holiday spot for people from Perth and there are many holiday homes in the town as well as permanent caravans in the huge park. We have been given a magnificent site. It is grassed and so big. Apparently it is for a bus or 30 foot van! We’ve booked in for 3 nights. After setting up we tried to go and find a spot up stream in the Bremer River. I was hoping to kayak down the river into the Estuary. We had to drive along a very rough 4xW drive track and in the end we said it just wasn’t worth it as it was going to take us ages and the track was becoming very rough and very narrow. We returned to Bremer Bay and I went for a kayak in the Wellstead Estuary while Rob went unsuccessfully searching for a bakery that might have sold a pie! I kayaked for a couple of hours, enjoying the bird-life and watching out for the rocks which seemed to pop up out of nowhere. I headed for a creek called Devil’s Creek to try to stay out of the wind but by the time I made it there, it was time to turn around and head back to Bremer Bay. Once Rob had picked me up we drove down onto the beach and across the very large and established sand-bar that blocks the Estuary off from the ocean. We did some more exploring of some of the beautiful beaches around this area and hope to do some more over the next couple of days.
