Tuesday 16/02/21 Frickin’ fun with a fridge in full Esperance

Leaving Hopetoun we headed for Esperance and arrived well before lunch. We went to the first caravan park we intended to stay in and it had a sign up to say it was completely full so we drove around to another park and again it was full. I called another park and they too were full. Finally the last park I called had some sites available. One of the ladies I spoke to said that she really had no idea why it was so busy. She thought that may be people had left the lock-down areas as soon as they could and were “hanging around” Esperance to see what was going to happen. Anyway the park is very nice and we settled in before lunch. I went to put the fridge over to power and I noticed that no power was getting to the fridge. We checked the power supply and realized that something was wrong with the fridge. I emptied everything out of the fridge and freezer and we rearranged things in the car fridge and freezer and put everything in there. (I was secretly thankful that Rob had recently up-graded the car fridge freezer and it is now much bigger!) Rob played around with things for a bit and then called the “Electrician Extraordinaire”, Steve. Steve suggested a few things and then said he would “research” the problem. Rob and I went into town for a bite to eat, fuel and a small shop……considering the state of the fridge. Returning to the van, there were video calls back and forth from Steve to Rob and Rob spent most of the afternoon occupied with the fridge. Anyway it is now 8pm and the fridge seems to be cooling down so in the morning we will know more. Can I say Rob is staying remarkably calm considering he feels this fridge has never worked properly since we bought the van and coupled with this we are on our third TV. Everything has been replaced with the TV, aerial, etc. and still it won’t work properly. We are using the satellite and it works fine with that. These problems have kept him and our brother-in-law Steve (Electrician Extraordinaire) busy but they wouldn’t want it any other way!

PS from the other guy. The dead bird is included cos Helen wasn’t able to take a photo of any of the live ones, bit fast for her!!!! The CP at Hopetoun was full of the live sort, just this one dead one which unfortunately flew into our van and didn’t make it.

Tuesday 09/02/21 Goodbye Denmark, Goodbye Mr Tee

  We didn’t have to rush off this morning as we were only travelling back to Albany. Rob decided to take a photo of Mr. Tee on the caravan at Denmark before we left and unfortunately, left him on the van. Mr Tee didn’t survive the trip to Albany so we now have Mr Tee junior. He will star in the photos tomorrow. We decided to stay at a lovely caravan park right at Emu Beach, adjacent to Emu Point. We can walk straight through to the beach on the large Frenchman Bay from the park and then it’s a short walk to the point and around to the very sheltered Oyster Bay which is very popular too. After settling in, I went for a short kayak on Oyster Bay and close to the entrance to the bay, around Emu Point. Although it was calm in the bay, the wind was up and it made kayaking a little difficult but it was still interesting. Thursday 11/02/21 Big, Beautiful Bremer Bay

  We left Albany heading to our next stop, Bremer Bay. The main highway was still closed for roadworks in the same area as when we were driving over and so once again we were sent on quite a long detour. Bremer Bay is only 188 kms from Albany so it didn’t take us that long. The caravan park at Bremer Bay is located adjacent to the Wellstead Estuary. It is a delightful little holiday town, surrounded by beautiful beaches and bays. It appears to be a very popular holiday spot for people from Perth and there are many holiday homes in the town as well as permanent caravans in the huge park.   We have been given a magnificent site. It is grassed and so big. Apparently it is for a bus or 30 foot van! We’ve booked in for 3 nights. After setting up we tried to go and find a spot up stream in the Bremer River. Thursday 18/02/21 A Big day of Driving

 Today we (really Rob) drove from Esperance to Madura, a small Roadhouse, motel, bar restaurant, caravan park in the middle of nowhere. It was pretty windy when we left and it wasn’t a helpful wind as it was a cross-wind and so it slow going to Norseman. Turning onto the Eyre Highway we then had a tail-wind until lunch-time. We stopped at Balladonia for lunch and fuel and the wind changed once again, so we now had a cross-wind but all things considered we did pretty well covering approximately 750km today. It was evident that even out on the Eyre Highway, there had been quite a lot of rain over the past 24 hours.
